Inside 100x Impact with President and CEO, Ellie Bertani

In our recently released 2026 impact report, we share the real-life stories of our partners and the communities they serve. It was also an opportunity to double down on GitLab Foundation’s ambitious commitment to increasing lifetime earnings.

In the video above, GitLab Foundation president and CEO, Ellie Bertani, walks through what drives our work, including the metric at the heart of this year’s report: for every $1 we invest, we aim to generate $100 in lifetime earnings. This year, we exceeded that goal. Based on the results from grants reporting through fiscal year 2026, we’ve generated approximately $193 in lifetime earnings for every $1 invested, nearly double what we set out to do.

She explains why that standard matters so much today. Technology is reshaping the labor market faster than most systems can keep up, and the people with the most to gain are often not well positioned to benefit. Through our work, we know firsthand that even a small but well-designed intervention can completely change an individual’s life trajectory. That’s an opportunity and responsibility the Foundation takes seriously.

Ellie also speaks to how we work — with speed, transparency and a deep belief that collaboration multiplies impact. We believe meaningful breakthroughs come from placing bold bets and from acting quickly to support ideas that can drive real gains in economic mobility. Further, our investments in early-stage ideas help our philanthropic peers to say yes too, with more than $90 million in additional funding after our initial investments.

The stories in this year’s report — from home care workers in Washington to women entering trades in West Virginia to tech careers built in Nairobi — show what our work looks like in practice. Explore the full report.
