The GitLab Foundation partners with OpenAI to support nonprofits using AI

The GitLab Foundation and OpenAI are partnering to award more than $2 million in funding to nonprofits using artificial intelligence (AI) to increase economic opportunity outcomes for workers and learners.

AI is rapidly reshaping how people learn and work, yet despite this and other remarkable technological progress over the past several decades, gains in economic prosperity have not been widely distributed. We believe that innovative, ethical applications of AI, machine learning, and advanced data science have the promise to unlock significant opportunities to help people afford a better life.

To encourage and enable economic opportunity for all, the GitLab Foundation’s AI for Economic Opportunity Fund, together with OpenAI, will support nonprofits in the exploration, development, testing, or use of AI-enabled tools and services to improve economic mobility for workers and learners.

On top of the GitLab Foundation’s $2 Million in grant funding for this first round, OpenAI will award up to two of the AI for Economic Opportunity grantees an OpenAI Social Impact Prize. The prize will include an additional $100,000 grant from OpenAI’s nonprofit organization, $10,000 in OpenAI API credits, and technical guidance from OpenAI engineers. All interested grantees will also receive $2,500 in OpenAI API credits.

Learn more about this first round of funding and apply by Sept 13!
